The Avengers: Infinity War is the follow up to the wildly successful Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil War and in this film the Avengers have finally come fact to face with the very powerful Thanos. As you may already know, we have almost every Avenger (and friends) in the film but in case you’ve been living under a rock we have: Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Bruce Banner/Hulk, Black Widow, War Machine, Spider-Man, Winter Soldier, and ect. We finally get to see all the end credit scenes we’ve seen over the past 10 years come to fruition in this next to last installment. Thanos is on a mission to collect all 5 infinity stones and the power of these stones is unimaginable (and not completely known). If Thanos manages to collect all 5 infinity stones, he plans to eliminate half of the known universe to create the “perfect balance”, but will he succeed or will The Avengers be able to stop this extremely powerful villain?
Ya’ll! There was so much good in this film, I don’t even know where to start. Ok, how about I start with some honesty…I have never seen the Doctor Strange movie and for that I am slightly ashamed….slightly. And my point in saying that is this… Doctor Strange was one of my favorite parts of this film. His ability to use magic was mind blowing and I was not mad at how he was able to match Tony Stark beat for beat when it came to intelligence, snarkiness, and no nonsense banter, and I loved it. Every time Doctor Strange was on the screen I was all into it, Benedict Cumberbatch did an amazing job and now I HAVE TO go back and watch the Doctor Strange film.
Another thing I really liked was how each original member of the Avengers was grouped with the newbies. The best combo was by far Thor and the Guardians of the Galaxy. This film helped bring understanding to why the huge “face lift” was given to the character of Thor in Thor: Ragnorok (which was something a had an issue with). Thor was able to add some great comedic lines, which is something the Guardians are known for, and it didn’t seem forced because they prepared us for this change. I was also overwhelmed when my favorite Avenger, Captain America meets up with my 2nd favorite Avenger, Black Panther! There is this awesome scene where Alien creatures are attacking the protective barrier at Wakanda and T’Challa gives the signal to open the barrier. So, the Wakanda army and Avengers charge at the enemies coming in and seeing Cap and Black Panther run full speed and match each others pace was FUCKING AMAZEBALLS! It may seem like a small thing to you but it was so exciting to me. There was also this awesome tag team fight with Okoye and Black Widow versus Proxima Midnight and it was everything I have ever needed. To see these two bad ass women team up to take on such a powerful villain had me giddy in my seat.
Thanos! Yes the main villain of these film was the best thing about it. Whenever a movie can give depth to a villain and create a character that you both hate and understand, I am here for it. I have never watched an Avengers film and felt so much despair and hopelessness for these characters, Thanos was that bad ass. Josh Brolin as Thanos sold this character like nobody’s business! It was easy to see where Thanos was CG but in those performance scenes, I was taken aback by the range and depth that Brolin gave this character. This is something DC really needs to study because this is what fans want to see. A bad guy that shows real emotion, has a clear plan that oddly makes sense, and I was shook when this man’s plan succeeded and half of the universe disappeared! It was a Walking Dead Negan moment all the way for me.
The only thing that bothered me about this film was some of the loose ends that still remain like the the Captain America/Iron Man beef or the Bruce Banner/Black Widow love story, but I’m sure we’ll see those things wrapped up in part 2. I was pissed to see Wakanda destroyed (this is what happens when you allow colonizers in your safe communities) but all the comic book snobs ruined that for me prior to seeing this so I knew it was coming but I was still mad.
I have heard people refer to this film as the best MC movie to date and I would have to agree. Although I love Black Panther, this film helped me remember how much I love Captain America, the banter of Spiderman, and introduced me to Doctor Strange. I also love how they appear to be ending this chapter of the Avengers with the original crew in part 2. I love all the new characters but it will be good to see the OGs get together one last time to take Thanos down. So, with all that being said…This Sista Gurl highly recommends Avengers: Infinity War, yes you have to be familiar with the other movies to really enjoy this one but that is not a bad binge watch session at all. This movie was hands down…A Flawless Victory!
